GREAT WEEKEND FOR CAP HENRY
10 August 2006
Driver returns to ranks after a few sprint car events
16 year old Cap Henry returns from the Bondurant School to make 2 out of 3 A-mains directly from his heat races. Cap Henry graduated from the 4 day Bob Bondurant Grand Prix School on July 27, 2006, to return to sprint car action on July 29 at Fremont Speedway in Fremont Ohio.
Cap made the A-main right out of his heat race to begin 18th out of the 20 car field. The HMC Ltd. sponsored driver ran a very consistent race to make it up to the 11th position before hitting a turn 4 hole that shot the car through the edge of the infield in a large wheelie. Cap recovered like all pro drivers do and held on to finish 13th.
On August 4th, Cap returned to Attica Raceway Park, and led over half of his heat race only to lose the lead on a restart after a caution, finishing 2nd overall and moving right in to the A-main. The talented youngster began the A-main in the 7th position with the hopes of a top 10 finish. Unfortunately these hopes were dashed when the motor On the Elite Collision backed car began to sound sour half way through the race and managed a 14th place result.
On August 5th the team was back at Fremont Raceway Park with the motor running at full strength again, though a bad pill draw was going to make for a hard evening of racing. Hot Laps insured the team the motor was back, as Cap was able to run times with some of the best in the class. The team missed the set up for the heat race and the car now running at full song was to strong, and the car was unable to get forward bite relegating Cap to the back of the B-main. Cap’s night ended on the first lap of the B-main with a power steering hose letting go and forcing retirement from the event.
On August 6th Cap returned to his karting road racing roots to run his 80cc Shifter Kart at the Fremont Raceway Park. Starting a half lap down a field of 7 (due to no other karts in his actual class) he was able to show his versatility to win both heats and the main rather handily lapping all the karts except second during the feature event. He then proceeded to delight the crowd with a series of victory donuts on the front straight after the checkered flag.
Cap will return to action August 19th back on the Asphalt at Sandusky Speedway followed by the 305 Sprint Nationals August 25th and 26th at Sandusky Speedway
