Cap Henry’s Tour Down Under Ends on a Positive Note

Saturday December 12th would be Cap Henry’s final race in Australia, and he was out to get some redemption for what has been a very tough learning experience.

Having suffered the most horrific crash of his career a month ago to turn around and make a stunning run for a transfer the following week, an then not make it by a mere foot or two, to a Tommy tip over in his last outing Cap was determined to leave the Australians with a positive view of his driving skills.

He started his final night with a decent qualifying time of 16th out of the 29 car field.

His first heat would find him starting and finishing in the third position, his second heat would find him starting 4th and moving to 3rd for the finish, putting him into the A-Main from his heat races.

The A-main would find Cap starting 9th out of the 17 car field. Cape reported he got a great initial start and moved up numerous positions though the started waved it off for a full restart. The second start would find him getting moved backward and he would battle most the evening to try and move back forward. He finished the night in 10th position.

His teammate Matt Butler made the A-main coming through the B-main to finish 13th.

Overall the season down under was a success, though the results don’t necessarily support that the way we had hoped.

Cap made 2 A-main events with a 7th and 10th place finish, 2 B-main to front runs to come up short of the A-main event, and 2 accidents, one destroying a car.

The final measurement will really come in the future as we head into the 2010 season, where he will continue to run on unfamiliar tracks, though he should be able to give much stronger feed back to Keith Whaley and Brain Kemenah for set up purposes.

We’d like to thank the Butler family in it’s entirety for all they did for us, and Cap’s new family down under. Our current sponsor that helped make this possible, and Trail A Van, Bob Cats Today, Butler Fabrication and Auto Tech.

Cap19 year old Rookie Sprint car sensation Cap Henry to join the All-star Circuit of Champions in 2010. “The rumors had been circulating since approximately a month after the primary sprint car season ended stated team manager Kit Henry, though we wanted to make sure we could make the full commitment to the All-Stars before we did a press release.” “We have been working on this deal with Brian Kemenah, Guy Webb, and Owen Fritz since before the whole tire issue was being bantered around. We just needed to make sure we could get the right commitments from some past sponsors, some tentative sponsor, and the personnel that it is going to take to do this on the proper level.”
Cap Henry is the 2010 Rookie of the Year for Fremont, Speedway, Fremont, Ohio, Attica Raceway Park, Attica, Ohio, and the newly formed F.A.S.T. championship (Fremont, Attica, Sprint Title). He also punctuated the year by finishing in the top ten in points in all three. He is the 2007 305 Rookie of The Year, at both Attica, and Fremont, and a SKUSA Shifter Kart Rookie of the Year and Champion. The young driver from Bellevue, Ohio is a 3rd generation driver that has been racing since he was 6 years old.

He has raced go-karts at all levels from locally to WKA, Skusa and Stars, He has raced on dirt ovals, asphalt ovals, and road raced all over the USA, He began his full size car open wheel career with the USAC Kenyon Midgets and the 305 Asphalt sprints at the age of 14. Moving to the dirt tracks at the age of 15 ½. Cap has numerous heat races under his belt in all the different open wheel cars including 2 305 sprint car wins.

CapCurrently Cap is completing in the toughest racing he has done of his career, by venturing down to Australia to race with the best they have to offer. Though the results have not been as good as hoped with only 1 A-main start, the “Young American” as they have named him, has made great progress, repeatedly coming from the rear of B-mains to end up one positions short of the A-main. He has raced and held off such notables as Max Dumesny and run bumper to bumper with Brook Tatenall.

Cap is excited to begin the 2010 season, in early January as the team heads back to the Chili Bowl to race his midget again. Last year the team won a C-Main and if not for driver error would have made an A-main though that’s what learning is all about. He and crew chief Keith Whaley also look forward to the opportunity to work with Brian Kemenah and Tim Shaffer the 2009 All-Star Championship team
