Versatility Contiues to pay dividends
24 September 2005

picSunday, September 18, 2005 was the 14th running of the Clyde Grand Prix street go-kart race. Bellevue¹s Cap Henry continued to show his versatility as a driver again this year. Though he did not garnish any wins this year as he had the previous 3 years running, he did do very well. The Henry MotorSports team driver was moved up to all adult classes this year to make it harder on him as a driver, and further continue to test his skills. Again the 15 year old Bellevue High School Freshman was up to the task. Starting with the Adult Stock Lights class Cap was very quick. He didn¹t draw a good pill in this class as he was starting from the 15th out of 20 starting positions. As the race shook out the young driver was running very fast laps and slowly working his way to the front of the field, following 17th starter Jeremy Champion. He was running in the 6th position in the McGee Lien Slack kart when two of the leaders took themselves out, this then moved him into 4th while Champion took the lead. Cap worked his way up to second with 5 laps to go. On the final lap he misjudged his speed in to turn two and got loose letting drivers Fox, and Kleam to get back by for a 4th finishing position. Cap stated after the race that "I had a tough time finding a breaking point for turn 2 all day, and on the final lap I broke to late and got loose coming off the corner, it was my mistake."

The second class of the day would not be a good one for the whole Henry MotorSports Team. The second class was the Yamaha Super Can class of which Cap was teamed up with Veteran driver John Ivy out of Fremont, Ohio. The team had good practice sessions though the race started out poorly as the two drivers got sandwiched in between other drivers on the start, and all 4 karts got wedged together. Cap dropped out with mechanical failure, due to a loss of ground to the ignition. Dad Kit Henry took responsibility for this breakage on a part he had fabricated. John dropped out after being lapped twice by the eventual winner Gary Lawson.

The final class of the day for the Team would be the Pipe Super Pro Class. Again the team showed speed in practice though had some struggles in the race. The team started in the 4th and 5th starting positions with Cap Henry being the latter. Cap got a good start, though John¹s kart decided not to leave the line quickly at all. While Cap was moving forward in the field taking advantage of attrition John was struggling to keep his kart going, exiting early with an unfortunate DNF. Cap Henry continued to run strong in his Alan Rudolph designed kart to come home third quickly closing the gap on 2nd place when the checkered fell.

Friend and teammate on the McGee-Lien Team Cody Lein picked up where Cap left off after 2004 winning the amateur class for this team for the second time in 2 years coming from the 7th starting position. In the past 6 years Cap Henry has had an impressive finishing record at this race winning 4 times in three different classes, coming home 4th two times, and third another time, in 2 other classes.

Successful Sprint Car Debut
24 September 2005

pic15 year old, Bellevue, Ohio, native Cap Henry made the step from karting to Sprint Cars this past weekend successfully at Sandusky Speedway, in Sandusky, Ohio. The Henry MotorSports team driver showed great poise and maturity for his age running with the 305 sprint cars for the first time. In an early practice incident the car lost it's radiator hose and the young driver was able to keep the car off the wall while getting sideways in his own fluids. Though his qualifying effort was not great he was able to out qualify some of the more experienced racers he faced. His first heat race was begun from the outside pole next to fellow kart racer Paul Thrash of Sandusky, Ohio. Cap was able to take the lead going into turn on and lead until the halfway point. He slowly fell back to finish 4th in the heat race giving him and automatic berth into the main event of 26 cars. The Feature found the Elite Collision sponsored driver in the 14th position with the likes of Bryan Scott, and 410 Sprint Car Champion Mike Linder. The goal if possible in the feature was to try and stay in contact with these drivers. Unfortunately this was not quite accomplished partially due to what can only be called an ugly race. The first three starts resulted in restarts, and by 1/2 way over 10 cars had either crashed or dropped out of the event. Cap was able to keep his nose clean, and the car in one piece during all of this only to have a late race flat tire. The crew was able to take advantage of one of the red flags and get the driver into the pits for quick repairs. Nate Martin, Craig Mintz and Brad Feuerstein did a great job in getting the repairs done and Cap was able to rejoin the field with out incident. The HMC Ltd. Internet driver was able to race with the pack the remainder of the event to come home in his starting position of 14th. Overall the team was very pleased with Cap's debut and hope to have more success in the future as the team jells and things come together. Cap's next race will be the Clyde G0-Kart Grand Prix Sunday September 18, 2005, followed by another race September 24, 2005 at Sandusky Speedway in the 305 Sprint Car.
