“Strong podium after leading 14 laps”

Bellevue , Ohio – August 28, 2007 – 17-year-old rookie sensation Cap Henry lead 14 laps of the prestigious 305 Invitational at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio during the September 2nd event. On the historic Labor Day weekend race 45 cars showed up for the biggest payday on dirt for the Midwest’s 305 sprint car invitational and only 23 cars would start the A-main.

The evening started off rough for the Elite Collision backed sprinter as the car developed a brake leak during the engine warm up session. The team kept cool heads and diligently went to work making repairs; unfortunately they would not be made in time for Cap’s only hot lap session of the evening. This is the only event of the year where the 305’s qualify for heat race starting positions and the T-N-T backed driver was to go out for qualifying with no laps on the car for the evening.

Showing a multitude of maturity the 17-year-old did not let the pressure phase him as he proceeded to initially lay down one of the top five times early in qualifying. As the run for the pole finished, Cap held the seventh quickest time out of 45 cars entered.

Next would be the Australian Pursuit for the top ten cars in points with the point leader starting at the tail of the field. With Cap sitting ninth in the overall standings, he would start second in the ten car single file line. On the first start Cap had a great jump and moved under the leader to pass him coming out of turn two as a the red flew for an accident. When things got restarted, Cap’s fellow competitor was holding the top spot and he was not about give it up. Looking to get another jump on the field and move into the lead, the young Henry concentrated on the start but the pole sitter played it a little more cautious bring the field down at a snails pace for the restart. Cap held his own for the majority of the pursuit to come home fifth.

Directly following the Australian Pursuit was the first of the heat races to transfer drivers to the feature event. Wearing his new G-force gear suit seemed to be in Cap’s favor as he proceeded to make quick work again of the cars in front of him in his heat race to come home a steady third, transferring directly to the A-main.

His qualifying position along with his heat race finish would garner the HMS backed car the third starting spot for the 30 lap main event. As the race began Cap moved into second to begin chasing the leader. On lap three Cap would slide by Brad Bowman to take the lead. He held this position through the first set of cautions running a very strong race, hitting his marks lap after lap. On lap 16 Attica Track champion and Fremont points leader Andy Shammo would get next to Cap as they headed into traffic. For the next two circuits the two would battle back and forth with the youngster showing great poise picking his way through traffic with the crafty veteran. Andy would
take the lead on lap 18 dropping Cap to second place. Bryan Sebetto, the quick qualifier, would use the high line to pass Cap with five laps to go. The 17-year-old rookie sensation came home third overall and appears to be the only rookie driver to have lead the 305 invitational races. This finish moves him up to eighth in the overall points with two events to go and only one point behind fellow competitor Cody Runion.

“I want to thank the whole team for an awesome job,” explained rookie driver Cap Henry. “The night started off rough but we were
able to stick together and get through the trouble. That just shows how great of a team we are. We turned what looked to be a dismal night into a strong podium result.”
