TEAMHenry MotorSports is a family-based team that traces its roots back to the late 1950's when Cap's grandfather Charles "Chuck" Henry was a successful SCCA H Production road racing driver with his 1948 MG TC. When not racing this production car, Chuck worked for the telephone company and ran a local asphalt go-kart track in Bellevue , Ohio . Unfortunately his life was cut short in a practice session in 1961 at Road America , in Elkhart Lake , Wisconsin . He was crowned National Champion after his demise. His sons Paul and Kit Henry eventually picked up where their father left off racing SCCA Formula Atlantic and Continental cars successfully during the 70's and early 80's, amassing numerous NeOhio regional championships between the two of them. Paul was invited to the National Run offs on more than one occasion. The team then faded for 15 years until Kit's son Cap began showing an interest in racing when he was 6 years old. Since then the team has raced at all levels of go karting successfully throughout the Midwest , winning local, regional, and divisional championships in WKA and SKUSA. In 1999, Kit opened the Go-Kart and Safety Gear business and called it Henry MotorSports, Inc. as a means to finance his son's racing endeavors. As the business grew and took more of Kit's time at the track it became apparent that they needed to hire additional drivers to help maintain Cap's karts at the track. Over the last few years the team has had the opportunity to work with some of the young guns of the racing world including sprint car drivers and super modified drivers and now works with team members, John Ivy, Craig Mintz, and Moe Lilje, as well as Caleb Griffith, Bryan Sebetto, Skip Hoffman and others. The family business has been the team's primary funding source.
